January 13, 2017

Another whirlwind week has just flown by.  The year 2017 promises to be an exciting one.  The Spelling Bee crowned a new champion and next week our 2017 archery team will be announced.  The school-year is almost half over.  Where has the time gone?

With that said, it's time to make a new commitment to making the 2nd half of our school year be even better and more productive than the first.  There are so many new things to do and learn!  With C.O.R.R.E.C.T. as our guide, there's no limit to what we can accomplish!

5th grade is working on how making connections can make us better readers and writers.  We are starting from discovering strategies to help us decode, analyze, and connect to unfamiliar vocabulary.  Context clues?  No problem.... just another clue to comprehension.  We will continue with our fluency practice and understanding the facets of "close" reading.  Homework will be assigned daily from our Readers' Notebook.

6th grade continues with using "My Access" to help with our writing.  We are also exploring the purposes of why we need to become good writers.  Our reading studies continue with "Al Capone Does My Shirts."  We are exploring connections to life in the 1930's and the progress we have made in assisting people with disabilities.  Homework will be assigned daily from our Readers' Notebook.
