September 22, 2014

Our class has a busy week planned as we begin Unit 2 in our new Journey's series.  This week we will begin reading with informational text.  Students are learning about different genres, and author's purpose.  Our text this week is about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Monday began with an introduction to our story's vocabulary.  Students are learning to identify the words making connections to definitions and pictures.  Partnerships explored our words and introduced them to the rest of our class.

Tuesday will find the class making their own personal vocabulary cards to reinforce meaning and to provide a means to help them study.  We will also learn vowel/consonant rules on syllabic division.

We will read and reread the story Martin's dream that paved the way for equality in our country.  Students will be asked to share their ideas on how this dream affects our world today.
